Spartan Manor at the Shelby House

This Spartan rebuild is worthy of the same respect it garnered in 1946. Spartan trailers were so well built than a fair number of the 40,000 units built have survived decades of neglect, elements, and scrap yards; but this trailer from their first year of production is a very special part of our park.

The Spartan Aircraft Company was founded in 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. J.P. Getty (yes, that Getty) acquired the company in the late 1930’s and invested heavily in research and development. When the US got involved in World War II, Getty went to enlist, but was told his efforts would be better served operating the manufacturing plant to supply airplanes and parts for the war. After WWII Spartan used its skilled labor force and manufacturing abilities to create the legendary Spartan Executive; a five seat plane with unparalleled luxury, speed, and flight range for the extremely wealthy. In 1945 Spartan changed focus to a like-industry, travel trailers, and did so with the same cutting edge building techniques and lavishness one would expect. - Source

The Tomato Plant

Tomato Art Fest has been uniting fruits and vegetables since 2004. The annual festival attracts people from all over with fun-themed art, local music, delicious food, costumes, wacky contests, shopping, kids activities, & more.

Sounds like something we’d be into.

So we decided to produce Tomato Art with friends (some new / some old) this Summer and makes some noise August 11th and 12th at the Festival.

Below are some examples of the Tomato Art we are making. We are currently “growing” the art at our homes. As the work progresses, we will be “planting” the art at 918 Shelby Ave x South 10th Ave. Stop by, take a look and let us know what you see.

Join us August 11th and 12th in the front yard and see ”The Tomato On Machine” in action.

East Nashville Trading Co.

Once upon a time, there was beauty parlor, a fish store and a few other small businesses at 918 Shelby x South 10th. At the back of the building, there is a garage. According to Kevin, a resident of the neighborhood for 25+ years, there was a 1971 Camaro parked inside. Makes one think… why not open the garage doors once again and use the space to start a business. A small business that provides the East Nashville community with a marketplace to buy, sell or trade whatever they have to buy, sell or trade. For now, it’s Tomato Art Fest inspired apparel, prints and paintings.

If you have goods or services you’d like to share, reach out and we’ll get the conversation started.
